The Evolution of Dance, Music & Fashion
The word music derives from the Greek μουσική (mousike; “art of the Muses”)
When music first emerged it was all about the music itself. The mixing of different types of instruments into something enjoyable. As a matter of fact, music is most often than not defined as an “organized sound“.
It is only much later that lyrics were added to music in order to a convey much deeper messages. And yet as diverse as music is, so are lyrics and the people creating them. For example, a writer of lyrics is called a lyricist but the words to an extended musical composition such as an opera are, however, usually known as a “libretto” and their writer as a “librettist“. Some lyrics are very explicit while others are implicit and thus might convey different messages depending on the listener.
Even today, most music listeners are attracted by the well-organized sounds first rather than the lyrics. Below is a video that represents the Evolution of Dancing, from the 1920s to today but I also see it as the Evolution of Music and yes maybe fashion as well.
